What is the Advisory Council?

As an Advisory Council member you will attend quarterly meetings and participate in work groups or committees that focus on your area of expertise. We are looking for a team of dedicated community members who will help connect us to new opportunities and strategically plan for our future.

Who are we looking for?

  • Believers in the mission - Understand and champion Blackland's history and anti-displacement work

  • Connectors - Know how to make things happen, not just connected themselves

  • Cultural competence - Open to learning about/part of African-American culture central to Blackland

  • Action-oriented - Motivated to do groundwork, make introductions, drive initiatives

  • Strategic thinkers - Can help articulate and advance the $20M vision

  • Committed - Will stay engaged with vision and purpose as organization grows

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Strategic planning and 5-year vision development

  • Major donor cultivation and foundation relationships

  • Opening doors and making high-level introductions

  • Bringing external perspectives and best practices

  • Organizational reputation building and advocacy

  • Marketing, media, and visibility strategy

Term Structure:

  • 2-year renewable terms

  • Maximum of 3 terms (6 years total)

  • Annual review/renewal for continued engagement
